Immune Support

SARS-CoV-2 is a new virus that does not have any studies that we can use to know which nutrients or herbs will prevent or affect the outcome of COVID-19. But what we do know is that the current coronavirus is about 80% genetically similar to the coronavirus, SARS CoV1 that caused the epidemic in 2003. We can use this information to provide possible ways to prevent the virus from attaching to your cells or replicating.

Please see the following posts for more information about how these supplements can work and a solid plan for prevention.

PureDefense contains Elderberry along with N-acetyl cysteine (NAC), and EpiCor® which is a fermentate of Saccharomyces cerevisiae that contains various bioactive metabolites.

These nutrient metabolites enhance immune cell production and especially natural killer cells which are very important in killing viruses. Numerous studies show that NAC supports upper respiratory tract health and overall immune health.

For COVID. Since SARS2 mainly causes upper respiratory infection, NAC with Elderberry is a great combination and can decrease viral replication. PureDefense also contains trace amounts of Vitamin C, D, Zinc, and Quercetin but not enough to be meaningful.

Dose. Take 2 twice a day.

A 2014 Study showed that Elderberry is highly effective against directly blocking human coronavirus from attaching to cells. So, this may be true for SARS-CoV2 also. It has the potential to prevent it from ever establishing an infection.

For COVID19. Best to use as a preventive measure and if exposed to the COVID19. Can start with just the PureDefense and then add the Elderberry for a total of 900mg

Dose. Take 1 a day of adding to the PureDefense. Otherwise, start with 1 a day and then increase to 2 if any symptoms or known exposure to COVID19.

ZINC.

Zinc has multiple health benefits and is especially important to decrease viral replication. Zinc directly inhibits at least three different pathways that SARS CoV1 uses to reproduce. So it is likely to be effective against this new coronavirus as well.  A zinc transporter such as quercetin helps to bring Zinc inside the cell to stop the viral replication. The most bioavailable form of Quercetin is Isoquercetin.

Isoquercetin

Quercetin is known for its powerful antioxidant properties and inhibiting protein damage. Quercetin in the body is converted to an inactive form as part of the digestive process thus limiting its effectiveness. Isoquercetin which is the 3-O-glucoside of quercetin is more bioavailable than quercetin and exerts a stronger physiological response in the human body. Read more HERE.

For COVID, isoquercetin is also a zinc ionophore which is important to bring zinc intracellular.

Dose is 1 capsule daily taken with food. Can increase to 1 three times a day as needed.

10mg Zinc

Zinc is very important for inhibiting viral replication. Zinc has to be brought intracellular and taking isoquercetin will help to pull zinc inside the cell to decrease the replication of the virus

For COVIDIt has been speculated that the virus entry is via the nose and mouth and the lozenge is the best for releasing zinc into these areas for preventionYou will want to make sure the lozenge dissolves in your mouth. You will still need an oral dose for the prevention of lung infection.

Dose is 1 lozenge 2 times a day. Make sure to completely dissolve in the mouth. Increase to 3 a day if around someone who has been exposed. Do want to take it prior to going to the grocery store.

20mg Zinc

Zinc is very important for inhibiting viral replication. Zinc has to be brought intracellular and taking isoquercetin will help to pull zinc inside the cell to decrease the replication of the virus.

For COVID. Oral zinc is the best method for prevention of lung infection. It is best to take the zinc lozenge also as the literature shows that the mouth and nose are the sites of infection.

Dose is 1 tablet once a day. May increase to 2 a day times a day if around someone who has been exposed or start having symptoms.

30mg Zinc

Zinc is very important for inhibiting viral replication. Zinc has to be brought intracellular and taking isoquercetin will help to pull zinc inside the cell to decrease the replication of the virus.

For COVID. Oral zinc is the best method for prevention of lung infection. It is best to take the zinc lozenge also as the literature shows that the mouth and nose are the sites of infection.

Dose is 1 tablet once a day. May increase to 2 a day times a day if around someone who has been exposed or start having symptoms.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D is known to enhance immunity and has been backed by multiple studies. Its main effect is to activate T-cells and macrophages and to amplify immune cells.  There is some controversy though in taking Vitamin D with an active COVID-19 infection. It is thought that the amplification of the immune system that Vitamin D produces may increase the severity of the disease. Therefore it is best to decrease or stop taking Vitamin D if you contract the virus.

Vitamin D is best taken with the other fat-soluble vitamins especially Vitamin K2 and Vitamin A.  Optimal levels of Vitamin D are between 50-80. If you don't know your Vitamin D level then take 2000iu.

2000iu of Vitamin D

This particular product provides a combination of Vitamins A, D, E, and K. This is a fat-soluble emulsion which is a better way to absorb these fat-soluble vitamins. 1 capsule= 2,000 IU's of Vitamin D.

For COVID. You will want your Vitamin D levels to be between 50-80. Dose depending on your level. If you do not know your Vitamin D level, then take 2000iu which is 1 capsule.

Dose Take as needed depending on your level once a day with food.

2000iu of Vitamin D

This particular product provides Vitamins A, D, and K in a fish oil capsule for better absorption. Each capsule is 2000iu of Vitamin D.

For COVID. You will want your Vitamin D levels to be between 50-80. Dose depending on your level. If you do not know your Vitamin D level, then take 1 capsule.

Dose Take as needed depending on your level once a day.

Other important products for your immune system.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C has many important immune benefits that have been rigorously studied. Vitamin C is water-soluble and has a short half-life in the body. It is best to take in divided doses. The Liposomal version of Vitamin C has enhanced delivery and better bioavailable.

For COVID. Vitamin C prevents attachment of the coronavirus so necessary to take for prevention.

Dose Each teaspoon is 1000mg. Take 1 teaspoon twice or three times a day.

Glutathione

Glutathione naturally decreases as we age yet is so important for your health. Glutathione is your body's master detoxifier, helps with sleep, buffers oxidative stress and also decreases viral replication.

There are other less expensive formulations but glutathione is not absorbed well if taken orally

For COVID. Start with 1 pump and slowly increase to 2 pumps every other day. If any symptoms then increase to 2 pumps daily.

Dose 1 pump to 2 pumps daily. Hold under the tongue for 30 seconds before swallowing.
