Functional medicine helps the body, mind, and spirit. Think what it can do for you.

What is Functional Medicine?

Functional Medicine was founded in 1991 by Dr. Bland. The focus was on bringing cutting-edge research to the attention of an eclectic audience of scientists, medical doctors, and other health professionals. The emerging science delved deep into physiology and biochemistry, moving way past the more simplistic one-disease-one-drug research that had been driving medical thinking since the mid-20th century.

Clinicians of every discipline, wanting more for their patients, began to embrace the philosophy of functional medicine.  Functional medicine physicians stay abreast of the cutting edge research. They focus on the underlying common pathways to disease as well as the individual expression of disease created by the unique, ongoing interactions among genetics, environment, and lifestyle that shape our lives.

Functional Medicine is Patient Focused

Changes in healthcare are impacting the patient/physician experience, and future demands will further challenge the physician’s ability to provide personalized, attentive care.  At The Johnson Center, our attention is focused on your health as a positive vitality.  Investing in your health today will pay dividends in your health and the health of your future generations.

Functional Medicine takes more than 5 or 10 minutes and doesn't fit well with an insurance model of diagnosis and medication. The doctor and patient work together to establish the right diet and lifestyle to restore health. Patients also have to be willing to invest the time, effort, and money in order to achieve optimal health and wellness, instead of masking symptoms with medications. Popping a pill is easy; changing behavior and lifestyle is harder but the only way to establish true health and longevity.
