By way of background, the major determining factor for long and healthy living is delaying the onset of chronic disease. Ninety five percent of deaths are caused by three chronic disease groups: heart disease, neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and Huntington’s diseases, and cancer. The common factor in all of these diseases is metabolic aging, which is different than chronological aging. While you can’t control Father Time, you can slow your metabolic clock.

Knowing that metabolic aging is the number one cause of chronic disease motivated significant research efforts, including the groundbreaking Hallmarks of Aging study published in 2013. This paper, which documents nine key areas that cause us to age, is one of the most widely quoted and highly regarded papers in the medical community. It spurred increased research into the underlying causes of aging and the development of lifespan-extending drugs and supplements to slow aging down and help us live longer without chronic disease.

The Johnson Center uses these nine Hallmarks of Aging, as measured with diagnostic procedures like Genomic Analysis and advanced bio-marker testing, to identify your rate of aging, drivers of sub-optimal health, and your unique physiologic and biochemical make-up.
